Social Studies Educational Standards Supported and Reinforced by Thematic Unit Study Guide
"The Civil War in Charleston and the Confederate Submarine H.L. Hunley".
Using the Thematic Unit Study Guide will allow the students to practice and attempt to gain mastery of the general standards in Social Studies as listed below.
Grade Four Social Studies Standards

U.S. Studies to 1877

I. Time, Continuity, and Change: History

4.1.15 compare and contrast the ways of life in the North and South;
4.1.16 state the causes and events leading to the Civil War;
4.1.18 describe the Civil War and its effects on the nation;


Grade Eight Social Studies Standards
 U.S. and South Carolina Studies

I. Time, Continuity, and Change: History

8.4  The learner will demonstrate an understanding of the major developments in the history of South Carolina and the United States from Civil War through Reconstruction. The student should be able to:
8.4.1 identify the series of events leading to the election of Lincoln and the outbreak of Civil War
8.4.2 describe the causes and course of the Civil War and its effects on the American people
