How the AJT Process Differs From Other Vitrification Methods

The vitrification process has been around for several years. In the past, the process has not been able to consistently produce an end product that was free from harmful contaminants. As a rule, those using vitrification attempted to capture or encapsulate the contaminants into the glass itself. This has been done successfully in dealing with radioactive wastes that is to be buried and not subjected to leaching forces. However, when glass with internal contaminants is exposed to leaching, over a period of time, the contamination often separates from the glass posing threats to the environment.

The AJT Process drives off the contaminants and does not trap them in the glass. With no harmful materials left in the glass or aggregate it is impossible for it to contaminate the environment. The wastes that are driven off are either recovered for resale, broken down chemically into non hazardous substances or captured in the sophisticated air emissions system for further treatment.
